Privacy Policy
Last updated 14 June 2026
Starter policy — please have it reviewed by a legal professional and confirm it reflects your actual data practices before public launch.
Furlough ("we", "us") is operated by Datascape Industrial. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the Furlough app and website, why, and your rights under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Information we collect
- Account: your name and email, and a unique identifier from your Google or Apple sign-in. We do not store passwords. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a relay address.
- Profile: for fosters — a short bio, your town, approximate location, lifestyle/ home answers used for matching, and any photos you add. For shelters — organisation details, NPO registration number, contact details, location, and photos.
- Activity: pets you list or favourite, foster applications and the answers you give to a shelter's screening questions, bookings, in-app messages, and reviews.
- Payments: donations and sponsorships are processed by PayFast. We do not see or store your card details.
- Technical: device push-notification tokens (if you enable notifications) and basic logs needed to run and secure the service.
We do not collect or store identity documents.
How we use it
- To provide the service: matching fosters with pets, applications, bookings, messaging, reviews, and notifications.
- To keep the platform safe and prevent abuse.
- To process donations and sponsorships (via PayFast).
Who can see your information
- When you apply to foster, the relevant shelter sees your profile, photos, and your answers to their screening questions. Shelters' public details are visible to fosters.
- Service providers that help us operate: PayFast (payments) and Google (push notifications). They process data only to provide their service.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Retention
We keep your information while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information at any time (see Contact).
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS) and stored on access-controlled servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect it.
Your rights (POPIA)
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us below.
Children
Furlough is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be posted on this page with a new date.
